The best foods to pair with coffee

Ever wonder what coffee roast would go best with your favorite foods? Today I'll share my suggestions on what works best.

For some, it’s a toasted bagel with cream cheese. For others, maybe a biscotti or even a cannoli. Before you know it, you can’t even enjoy your coffee unless you pair it with a little delicacy.

Whether breakfast, lunch or dinner coffee can be paired with many foods

Morning, noon, or night coffee paired with food, or any kind of snack is a must. The time of day won’t change the habit . . . only what you choose to pair with your coffee.

So, does this common practice of among all of us coffee drinkers enhance or detract from our caffeine consumption? Let’s examine this.

Coffee roast and the condiments you choose matter

First off, there isn’t an easy way to quantify this with any sort of accuracy unless we surveyed the entire coffee-drinking world. We’re not going to do that but luckily a recent survey by YouGovAmerica indicated that only 20 percent prefer to drink their coffee black. Which is technically speaking the way it was intended to be enjoyed. My point is if you add milk, regardless of whether it’s soy, oat, or almond milk you’re essentially guilty of this outrageous crime. 😜

Whether the sugar you add is in the raw, Splenda, Sweet and Low or if you’re the type who isn’t satisfied till the spoon is standing up…. You’re no less guilty than the ones who only have coffee with cake and ice cream. You're still essentially altering the original drink.

Many would like to pretend they’re the most cultured coffee drinker and that we don’t need a bagel or some delicious chocolate to enjoy it. Unless you’re drinking it straight black, and it’s all you need for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can’t really say anything, right?

At the risk of sounding like anything less than a coffee expert, I’m going to go out on a limb and say pairing food with coffee only enhances it, and you may even be selling yourself short by not enjoying it with food or snacks.

Just like our other most culturally celebrated favorite drink, you guessed it . . . Wine, being a true aficionado means you know exactly what to pair the many different variations of it with. The way you might enjoy linguini and clam sauce with white wine and a steak only with red. You need to know your coffee roast and how to enhance it to maximize your coffee enjoyment.

Boscos Beans Italian Roast and French Maximo, our incredibly strong dark roasts. They go best with a hardy muffin to offset the simple yet robust flavor. You need a bold kick to go with the more one-dimensional foods.

With a bacon egg cheese sandwich or a stack of pancakes, I recommend the Bosco’s Signature blend, a full-bodied, medium roast that is satisfying but never overpowering. That way you can enjoy your meal or snack craving with a medium roast that perfectly syncs with your food.

Bosco’s Beans Organic Peru blend works best when starting your diet or on a health kick. Pair it with fruit or yogurt for a healthy and satisfying way to kick-start your day.

And if any of our coffees will be consumed without the aid of milk, sugar, or a snack/meal of your choice, I’d go for the Bosco’s Beans Crumb Cake blend. It’s so rich and satisfying to combine a dessert and coffee! It still works better with dessert, though. 😄
